Celebration of Demeter
24" x 36"
Mixed Media
Here is an example of using Red Rosin Paper as a substrate. Marty Fast an excellent life drawing instructor at Allen Hancock College introduced me to the stuff 'cause I liked to draw very large in her class. Later, I took a class with Lynne Perella who also touted its versatility. I started with gesso then acrylic, a layer of collaged papers and next tape and shapes cut from contact paper. Another layer of acrylic and then some stencils using Oil Paint Stixs. The photos aren't that great due to the metallic nature of the paints used, but you get the idea. This was a joy to create.

The top image is titled, "The Goddess Abides" and is a watercolor with paper elements. 41/2" x 61/2"
The second image is " What Mother Bares". The Woman is a handcarved stamp using Michelangelo's Virgin Mary from the Sistine Chapel as my inspiration. 41/2" x 61/2"
Collage has always been a favorite medium for me. It allows for a lot of experimentation with high levels of success. As a teacher of art, collage is always a favorite project because of this freedom it affords.
In both of these I was able to incorporate my hand carved stamps which are rather addicting to create. I love to carve small images.
