The madonna print is from a block I carved. I love to carve erasers too.

Woven
Coloered pencil, paper and cloth woven collage.

Woman and weaving go hand and hand. In the very old days, there was a superstition about the power of a woman and her thread. Fate was the triple goddess who spun, measured and cut the thread of every life. Penelope refused to cut the thread between she and Odysseus. Homer said this act was what brought Odysseus home safely. The silver thread of life. The story is woven of many threads to continue into eternity.

The Seed of the Universe

this image began as a portrait of a woman I new briefly. I was taken with her beauty and as I began to draw her face, I was reminded of Icons of the early middle ages. Hence the stylization of this image.

Mary is the last remaining goddess in our western culture. She is a symbol of compassion and mercy. She is the embodiment of creation. She reminds us of our connection with the goddess, of a time when WOMAN was honored. Are we not all born of woman?
